This complete character workshop is ideal for anyone starting out in 3D Studio Max. It will take you through the entire process of bringing a character to life in 3D. You do not have to have any prior experience with 3D Studio Max. Although it would be advantageous to have a basic understanding of the interface, this is certainly not essential.
With the knowledge gained by completing this workshop, you will have the confidence to create your own 3D character, based on your very own design. We have deliberately kept the character as simple as possible, in order to guarantee that you understand the basics of 3D character creation.
You will start with a graphic design which is then taken into 3D as reference plates. We use these plates to guide us while modeling. You will be shown how to start with primitive box objects, then through Poly-modeling, you will create the details needed to define the character's proportions. After the character is modeled, you will move onto texturing, then rigging and skinning. Once this is done you will be ready to animate some life into our little friend. After we animate our sequence, we move onto building a basic set, lighting it and rendering out the layers for final compositing.
And after you have completed all of the lessons, you will have a final rendered sequence you can really be proud of. You will be able to say to yourself and to others, that you brought this character to life, from scratch.
