Learn how to model a 3D wheel assembly in 3D Studio Max...

3D Modeling & Texturing Video Workshop - By Dave Scotland
In this workshop, you learn how to:
Create a stylish 3D Wheel Assembly, complete with a slick racing tyre in 3D Studio Max.
You will start by going over various reference images to assess the visual make-up of the desired product and to familiarize ourselves with what you are trying to ultimately achieve.
Once this is done, you will block-out the object with basic primitives before moving onto more detail, through the use of “sub-poly modeling” or “mesh-smooth modeling”.
As part of this process, you will learn how to maintain crisp edge detail and also how to keep smooth organic curves.
Once the model is built, you will learn how to create a simple lighting system which includes GI or global illumination and also how to create and apply base materials for the rim and tyre elements.
You will then take these materials further and design some great text graphics for the tyre and learn how to apply them over the base materials.
You will then, learn how to create and apply a displacement map for certain text elements.
Once these various processes have been complete, you will be left with a very stylish looking wheel assembly which can be used in conjunction with a full vehicle model or to simply be placed in your growing arsenal of 3D assets and skills.
Enjoy...
