New VFX Talk Challenge!!!

VFX401 - The Star Trek Soldier of Fortune ChallengeVery exciting news... VFX Talk have launched a new VFX Challenge Competition and I thoroughly recommend checking out the details...

Details Here

It´s stardate 2258, James T. Kirk has been charged with mutiny and has been marooned on the planet Delta Vega by Spock, who is now the commander of the starship USS Enterprise. Fortunatly for Kirk, Starfleet has hired a soldier of fortune and sent him to find and rescue Kirk! Planet Delta Vega is a bleak and barren ice planet, filled with countless life threatening dangers!

To move quickly on the snow, the soldier will be riding a next generation snowboard with plasma thrusters and a anti-gravity engine. He is also wearing a force field based spacesuit which surrounds him with an invisible barrier that keeps out the extreme cold and allows him to move about freely.

Your challenge is to re-create this hostile environment and integrate the supplied video footage depicting the soldier travelling at speed on his board, tweaking it to match the Stardate! You will also need to show that the soldier is fleeing from a natural, mechanical or alien disaster of your choice so let your imaginations run riot!

You can introduce 2D or 3D elements, modify the video footage we supply and use your matte painting skills if you so wish. The only must is that you will need to generate realistic ice and snow to ensure that the scene is as real as it can be! Put your VFX skills to the test by creating the scene as you see fit!

There are some great prizes up for grabs and they even supply the foreground footage, complete with matte pass.... I hope to see some creative CG Swot members representing... I might even have a crack at it myself...
